Material Manager – Ready to Eat – Meat Cooking Plant
Our client is a Progressive Food Processing Plant in the Fraser Valley, they are seeking a motivated and experienced Material Manager (FULL TIME POSITION) to join the production team at Abbotsford location.

We need a Material Manager who likes to use data to create a positive impact for our customers and our bottom line.
As our Material Manager, you are an integral member of our plant operations team, and will work with Operations, Finance and Logistics partners to plan, schedule and manage material logistics to drive positive plant productivity and results.
You will be responsible for onsite & offsite warehouses and inventory management.
As part of our leadership team, you will be responsible for executing leading practices, processes and new automation technologies to Plant management, with a mindset of continuous improvement and value creation for our team and our customers.
You will be responsible for implementing, managing, and improving materials logistics to maximize the stewardship, safety, quality and productivity of our plant.
You promote a healthy work culture ensuring plant and employee safety and health as priority.
Your goal is to ensure material availability to support the production schedule, considering shelf-life and inventory carrying costs, in order to maximize profitable production, minimize unproductive downtime and reduce waste.
This position is a direct report to the Senior Supply Chain Planner, and a dotted line report to the Plant Controller.
Job Functions /Responsibilities:
The following list of duties and responsibilities of the Material Manager (Full Time) is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the job described. Rather they are intended only to describe the general nature of the job.
Manage onsite & offsite warehouse activities (including raw materials, all pallet usage, product returns and all ingredients and packaging supplies in accordance with company policies) to ensure the most accurate, timely, efficient, and economical utilization of storage facilities. Ensure compliance with administrative policies and procedures related to warehouse and inventory management.
Direct and maintain first-in, first-out (FIFO) rotation of product in storage and ensure the freezer and storage areas meet company housekeeping standards.
Support the inventory replenishment strategy that will maximize material availability to support the fixed production schedule and minimize last-minute schedule changes.
Attend daily huddles with Plant Manager, Senior Supply Chain Planner, Leads and Supervisors to communicate regarding daily plant operations and inventory management as it relates to the production schedule.
Supervise warehousing staff (including monitoring employee time sheets and authorizing overtime and other requests). Provide training, leadership, communication, and motivation for staff.
In conjunction with HR, administer company policies on discipline and address complaints in a timely and respectful manner.
Liaise with Plant Manager, Senior Supply Chain Planner, Plant Controller, Materials Buyer, Administrative Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, QA Manager, Production Managers and Supervisors, and maintain effective relationships with other departments, providing input on matters related to inventory accuracy and control, and storage.
Be able and willing to occasionally adjust your shift to provide supervision on dayshift, night shift and weekends, when needed.
Participate, with the Plant Controller, in the creation and maintenance of records for tracking warehousing activities for analysis and improvement.
Monitor WIP inventory in the freezer and work with Shipping Supervisor, scheduler and Production Manager to schedule to use in it and manage incoming raw material based on this inventory.
Duties and responsibilities and not limited to the following will be directly reported to the Plant Controller:
Supervise and participate in periodic inventory counts of WIP, FG and dry goods.
Liaise with inventory analyst to explain timely inventory count variances.
Work with inventory analyst to ensure inventory accuracy via periodic review of the inventory adjustment report.
Report and manage material variances, to help reduce variances and reduce write offs
Identify slow moving or obsolete materials for proper and timely action
